It seems as if Possum Kingdom is more of a Jellystone type park. Where people and motors are loud. Some folks might enjoy it but we find the quiet beauty of other Texas parks much more enjoyable.
The 1,528-acre Possum Kingdom State Park is located in the rugged canyon country of the Palo Pinto Mountains and Brazos River Valley in North Texas. Between 1936 and 1941, the Brazos River Conservation and Reclamation District, with federal assistance, built a dam across the river.
Possum Kingdom State Park is a state park in Palo Pinto County, Texas, USA, that was built in the 1940s by Civilian Conservation Corps Company 2888 and opened to the public in 1950. [2] It covers approximately 1,530 acres (620 ha), and lies in the Palo Pinto Mountains and Brazos River Valley of Texas.
This park is located in the rugged canyon country of the Palo Pinto Mountains and Brazos River Valley, and is adjacent to Lake Possum Kingdom, 20,000 acres of the clearest, bluest water in the southwest. Numerous white-tailed deer make their home in the park.
Possum Kingdom State Park offers 7 cabins and over 100 campsites from primitive camping to premium camping sites with water and electricity. The area offers plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation from swimming boating, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and scuba diving.

One of the best in Texas. This state park has about everything you need in a park. Hiking, biking, swimming, camping, boating. The lake is gorgeous, and I am now in love with the Palo Pinto Mountains. We camped in the primitive water only drive-up area. The sites were clean, and well-spaced.
