Producers insisted his name remain in the title sequence because he still watched the show every week. Ray Collins died on July 11th, 1965 of emphysema in Santa Monica, California at the age of 75.

Collins was born in Sacramento, California, to Lillie Bidwell and William C. Collins, a newspaper drama editor.
