Saiyuki (Japanese: 最遊記, Hepburn: Saiyūki) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuya Minekura.
The story is loosely based on the famous Chinese novel Journey to the West. Currently the manga has two sequels Saiyuki Reload (2002-2009), Saiyuki Reload Blast (2009-ongoing), a prequel Saiyuki Gaiden (1999-2002) and a mini arc now running at Zero Sum Ward, Saiyuki Ibun (2009-ongoing).
After the Saiyuki "Premium" OVA was released in 1999, the manga received a proper TV anime adaptation, Gensoumaden Saiyuki, in 2000, and ADV licensed & released both the entire TV series as well as the 2001 theatrical movie, Saiyuki Requiem.
This article lists the main protagonists from the manga and anime series Saiyuki as well as other Characters. Most of them were originally created by mangaka Kazuya Minekura. Minekura's Sanzo-Ikkō, or Sanzo Party, bears only a superficial similarity to the original four in the Monkey King.
