According to Rebecca Sugar in Steven Universe: Art and Origins, Jasper has a fantastic reputation and is regarded as one of the best Quartzes produced on Earth. She is described by her as a "highly decorated Gem from humble origins" in Homeworld.
Jasper is a major antagonist of the Steven Universe franchise. She is a Homeworld Gem soldier who is bent on destroying the Crystal Gems and their leader, Rose Quartz, to avenge the presumed death of her superior, Pink Diamond, which turned her into Steven 's archenemy and his most frequent foe.
In the first episode of Steven Universe: Future, she finally acknowledges Steven as separate from Rose/Pink, but only to tell him he isn't her Diamond. Jasper does ultimately accept Steven as her Diamond... after he nearly kills her.
