Athletics. Go Blue! U-M’s rich athletics tradition began in 1865 and continues to this day with the Wolverines claiming more than 50 national championships in 12 sports. Our students, faculty and staff also regularly participate in dozens of intramural, club sport and fitness activities.
The Michigan Wolverines comprise 29 varsity sports teams at the University of Michigan. These teams compete in the NCAA's Division I and in the Big Ten Conference in all sports except women's water polo, which competes in the NCAA inter-divisional Collegiate Water Polo Association.
