The town of Wenham was settled in 1635 and incorporated in 1643. It has retained much of its historic character and rural scenery. It is a town of many open views of farm lands, lakes, woodlands, historic homes, and old stone walls that accompany its winding tree-lined roads.

Wenham Lake is a 224-acre body of water located in Wenham and Beverly towns, Essex County, Massachusetts.The lake receives water from the water table, a system of streams, the Putnamville Reservoir (via pipeline), and the Ipswich River (via pumping).

Wenham History. Wenham was officially set off from the Town of Salem on May 10, 1643, but was not incorporated by the legislature until September 7, 1643. Wenham was the first village to be set off as a definite township from Salem, as it was the first laid out.
Form of Government. The Town of Wenham has a Select Board and Open Town Meeting form of government. The Select Board employs an administrator to carry out its legislative and policy decisions. The Town Administrator handles the day-to-day administration of the Town.
