The Seney National Wildlife Refuge and its Whitefish Point Unit are nestled in the eastern portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Slow down, relax and unwind as you enjoy winding roads, beautiful vistas and the local wildlife that populate these forests, wetlands and waters.
We are one of the larger wildlife rehabilitation centers in Michigan. Each year, we admit approximately 3000-3500 animals, representing over 50 different wildlife species.

The Wildlife Recovery Association in Shepherd, Michigan provides quality educational outreach programs with live birds of prey, participates in research and management programs to support rare and endangered species, and provide care for orphaned and injured raptors.
Wildlife, particularly birds, is the prime attraction at Shiawassee. Thanks to its location along the Mississippi Flyway, the federal refuge hosts more than 270 species of birds each year including raptors, shore and wading birds, and a 100 different species of songbirds.
Green Point Environmental Learning Center serves as the visitor center for the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge and has natural history displays, an observation area for birds and other wildlife and naturalist programs throughout the year.
Wildlife Rehab Center (WRC) has served the Grand Rapids community for 30+ years as a reliable resource for injured and orphaned wildlife. Since our founding, we have grown to rescue over 4000 animals a year, all on a 1-acre urban property at our founders Peg and Roger Markle’s residence.
