May 3, 2020 · Porgy and Bess is an opera of unfulfilled dreams. Of the 8 main characters four die (Robbins, Jake, Clara and Crown) and three leave Catfish Row (Sportin’ life, Bess and Porgy). Only Serena stays behind. Nevertheless, the residents have not lost their confidence in God and the work closes with a great chorale. Recording Recommendation
