Ted Knight (born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka; December 7, 1923 – August 26, 1986) was an American actor known for playing the comedic roles of Ted Baxter in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Henry Rush in Too Close for Comfort and Judge Elihu Smails in Caddyshack .

After being hospitalized, Knight died of cancer in his home in Pacific Palisades at the age of 62, as reported by AP News. He was surrounded by his wife, Dorothy and three children.
Ted Knight was an actor who played Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) and starred in Too Close for Comfort (1980). He also did voice-overs for cartoons and served in World War II as a combat engineer.
