The estimates of the total population for counties and places in Texas for July 1, 2022 and January 1, 2023 are completed by personnel from the Texas Demographic Center at The University of Texas at San Antonio. In this brief report, the methodology used to prepare the estimates is described.
Texas’s population in 2022 was 30,029,572, second only to California (39,029,342), not surprising given its consistent place in recent years among the nation’s fastest-growing, largest-gaining states.
Increasing by 470,708 people since July 2021, Texas was the largest-gaining state in the nation, reaching a total population of 30,029,572. By crossing the 30-million-population threshold, Texas joins California as the only states with a resident population above 30 million as of 2023.
