Mar 9, 2024 · A good story coupled with an excellent narration made for an enjoyable listen. And although several references dated the story a little it didn't really detract. I like Matthew Hope and the tongue in cheek humour, the characters are rounded and believable.

Matthew Hope is a lawyer in Calusa, Florida, where he is hired by Jill Lawton to find her husband, Jack, who had disappeared. What starts out to be a story about tracking down the wayward husband, it soon turns into a tangled story of sex and murder, centering on the theft of a plain terra cotta cup on exhibit at the Casa De Pedro Museum.

Oct 23, 2012 · I'm an old Ed McBain fan, both 87th Precinct and Matthew Hope stories, so of course I liked it. I'm not sure it will fit into every mystery reader's library but if you enjoy a bit of off-beat humor mixed in with a bit of violence and a few twists, then this is probably a good choice.
