   How was Yahoo Groups data collected?

   • Our Yahoo Groups data was collected through multiple methods and from many sources; we intend eventually to collate and organize all of it so that it is practical to find what was saved for which groups. However, since ArchiveTeam's priority is always imminent site closures, this is proceeding slowly.

   I found yahoo-group-archiver easy to set up and use, and have downloaded a few groups that I care about. The tool creates a file hierarchy with subdirectories for files, members, photos, etc, each with a bunch of content files and json files.

   The Groups were deliberately killed by Yahoo about a decade ago. All sorts of functions failed, and yahoo couldn't seem to make them work. Oddly enough, when Verizon made the announcement of the data purge - everything suddenly started working perfectly again so listowners could get their data archived. Still angry over this one.
