Ludovico III Gonzaga of Mantua, known as the Turk (Italian: il Turco), also spelled Lodovico (also Ludovico II; 5 June 1412 – 12 June 1478) was the ruler of the Italian city of Mantua from 1444 to his death in 1478.
When Ludovico Gonzaga III was born on 5 June 1412, in Mantova, Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia, Austria, his father, Gianfrancesco Gonzaga I, Marchese di Mantova, was 17 and his mother, Paola Agnese Malatesta, was 19.
Ludovico III was buried in the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Mantua, where his ancestor, Ludovico I, the founder of the Gonzaga family, is also buried. There was a church on the site from early Christian times, followed by a later building that was destroyed by fire.
