The Capitol Records Building is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Southern California. Completed in 1956, the unusual round structure, with its curved awnings on each level and a tall spike emerging from the roof, was designed by architect Louis Naidorf to resemble a stack of records on a turntable spindle.
The building was commissioned by EMI after its acquisition of Capitol Records in 1955 and was completed in April 1956. The building is north of the intersection of Hollywood and Vine and is the center of the company's consolidated West Coast operations.
