It is in the Palo Verde Valley of the Lower Colorado River Valley region, an agricultural area and part of the Colorado Desert along the Colorado River, approximately 224 miles (360 km) east of Los Angeles and 150 miles (240 km) west of Phoenix.

In the summer, in spite of extreme high Sonoran Desert temperatures, Blythe is a center for water sports along the Colorado River. Blythe is a small town and the people are very warm and friendly. Blythe's educational system offers students facilities from pre-school through community college.

The Blythe Intaglios are a series of massive figures etched into the ground centuries ago by the Native Americans living in the area. The drawings are called geoglyphs, and the largest of them is over 170 feet in length. While you can experience them from the ground, they are best seen from the air.
