      • The pre-cyst form begins when the trophozoite starts to slightly change its shape, becoming more spherical and containing two nuclei. The cyst is typically 10 to 35 μm in diameter and is a colorless spherical shape.

  3. Entamoeba histolytica is an anaerobic parasitic amoebozoan, part of the genus Entamoeba. Predominantly infecting humans and other primates causing amoebiasis , E. histolytica is estimated to infect about 35-50 million people worldwide. [1]

  4. Mature Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar cysts have 4 nuclei that characteristically have centrally located karyosomes and fine, uniformly distributed peripheral chromatin. Cysts usually measure 12 to 15 µm.

  5. Introduction. Entamoeba histolytica is a unicellular, protozoon parasite of humans. It moves by a jelly-like tongue-like protrusion of the cytoplasm “pseudopodium. Infection with E. histolytica may. ” be the cause of a variety of symptoms, beginning from no symptoms to severe fulminating intestinal and/or life-threatening extraintestinal disease.

Dec 23, 2016 · Life cycle of Entamoeba histolytica. 1 Cysts with 4 nuclei (i.e., metacysts) are ingested orally with contaminated food or drinking water ( a-c ). 2 – 4 After excysting in the small intestine, both the cytoplasm and nuclei divide to form 8 small amoebulae (i.e., metacystic trophozoites ). 5, 6 Mature trophozoites (i.e., minuta forms) reproduce b...

  7. Feb 13, 2017 · Entamoeba histolytica occurs in the following forms, the trophozoites, precyst, cyst, metacyst, and metacystic trophozoite. The trophozoite is about 10–60 μm in size with a clear finely granular cytoplasm and a spherical nucleus that shows aggregation of chromatin beads at the nuclear membrane and a centrally located karyosome.

  8. In this review, we will highlight recent progress in our understanding of Entamoeba stage conversion including dissecting transcriptome analysis in development, characterization of transcriptional networks, demonstration of epigenetic regulation, and role of small molecules that regulate Entamoeba development.
