Nov 27, 2012 · Welcome to the Viking ship museum. The Viking Ship Museum is located at Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway and is part of the Museum of Cultural History at the University of Oslo. The museum building contains archeological finds from the mound cemeteries of Tune, Gokstad, Oseberg and Borre.
The museum is most famous for the completely whole Oseberg ship, excavated from the largest known ship burial in the world. Other main attractions at the Viking Ship Museum are the Gokstad ship and Tune ship. Additionally, the Viking Age display includes sledges, beds, a horse cart, wood carving, tent components, buckets and other grave goods.

History of the Viking Ship Museum. The Viking Ship Museum is a national symbol that houses what is probably Norway’s most important contribution to world cultural heritage: the ships and grave goods from the major ship burial sites at Oseberg and Gokstad, Tune and Borre.
The new Museum of the Viking Age will be three times as large as the current Viking Ship Museum. In total, the new museum will be approx. 13,000 m 2 , of which approx. 9000 m 2 is audience space, including 5500 m 2 of exhibitions.
