Dec 13, 2022 · The memorial consists of a curved structure sitting within a tiled area, which when seen from above replicate the crescent moon and star of the Turkish flag. There is also a bust of Atatürk, inscriptions and soil from ANZAC Cove.
Kemal Ataturk commanded the Turkish forces at Gallipoli and later became the founder and first president of modern Turkey. This memorial honours him, as well as the heroism and sacrifice of both the Anzac and Turkish troops who took part in the bitterly fought campaign.
Engraved forever at ANZAC Cove (see image below) are these words from Kemal Ataturk, the Commander of the Turkish 19th Division during the Gallipoli Campaign and the first President of the Turkish Republic from 1924-1938: Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives.
