Men in Black: International is a spinoff from the Tommy Lee Jone and Will Smith-starring Men in Black trilogy, and though it’s set in the same universe, the connections between the movies are pretty slim now that Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth star as the titular heroes in black.

There is only one direct reference to Agent J and Agent K in Men in Black: International: a painting of them battling Edgar the Bug from the first Men in Black movie that hangs in High T’s office. This is hanging next to a similarly styled painting showing High T and Agent H defeating the Hive, presumably suggesting that these were the most ground-breaking accomplishments made by Men in Black agents.

Beyond that, there’s no additional mention of the decorated Men in Black agents — likely because, true to its name, Men in Black: International takes place far from the United States. Still, there are some key connective tissues to the Men in Black New York office.

Most notably, Emma Thompson is the biggest returning familiar face in Men in Black: International. Thompson reprises her role as Agent O, the head of the Men in Black organization. She recruits Tessa Thompson’s Agent M after Molly breaks into the New York branch of MiB, and also is the one who sends Agent M to London to investigate something suspicious happening in that branch.

It’s while Agent M is at the New York branch that we get most of the movie’s callback cameos. When Molly sneaks in through the entrance, Frank the pug is sitting next to a security guard and asks the security guard if he is going to report a clear intruder who got inside Men in Black headquarters.

Agent M also bumps into some familiar faces: the Annelid aliens or “Worms” in the MiB subway as she is hopping on her train to the London office.

Of course, the neuralizer plays a key role in Men in Black: International, considering it seems to be the most important way the MiB agency keeps this whole aliens thing under wraps. In this movie, it's Molly not getting neuralized when she was a child that sets her on her dedicated path to becoming a Men in Black agent -- and, of course, it's a pretty big deal when she gets one herself.

After Molly gets accepted into the Men in Black, she is presented with her pick of weapons, including the Noisy Cricket. But while Agent J learned the Noisy Cricket’s charms in his MiB films, Agent M scoffs at the small gun, opting for some bigger artillery.

Small in plot importance but big in our hearts, of course, is the addition of Men in Black: International's red button. In this movie, it's placed inside Agent H's escape car, which helps him and Agent M fly off to Paris to stop the Hive once and for all.
