Michael Hedges. A few years ago I found myself standing with Michael Hedges in his new, sunny studio in Oak Park, just outside Chicago. Surrounded by his paintings my eyes had trouble adapting to the wonderful, vibrating energy bouncing around the place.
Michael Alden Hedges (December 31, 1953 – December 2, 1997) was an American acoustic guitarist and songwriter. He was known as a virtuoso who used unorthodox playing techniques, and much of his output was classified as new age music. Hedges died in an auto accident, and won a posthumous Grammy Award for his album Oracle.
Since graduating from Loras, Michael Hedges has been exhibiting his artwork through a few very select galleries. In addition pieces of Michael's work hang permanently in corporations throughout the Chicagoland area and Iowa.
