“Saving Grace,” with the blues at its core, bears a distinctly southern spirit, seamlessly assimilating the sounds of American roots music that Sharrard has long embraced. Sessions took place in Memphis and at the historic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Sharrard wrote or co-wrote them all, save an undeniable rendition of Terry Reid’s uplifting “Faith to Arise.” More than a few, particularly the languid, comforting “Words Can’t Say,” and effervescent “Sentimental Fool,” sound like timeless classics.
