Jul 17, 2016 · Apparently, the Office of Scientific Investigation and Research (O.S.I.R.) was just one of many names this super-secret agency used since its creation in the 1940s, and the Skeptic's Dictionary captured some of the supposed operational details that were posed on PsiFactor.com for a while.
But it had its own unique feel in the first season. I liked how the team members would kind of rotate from one story to the next, based on their expertise, and I liked the pseudo-documentary approach. I remember their marketing campaign got a lot of people to think the show was based on a true story. lol.
Disclaimer - most of the content is fiction, but some of the episodes are indeed based on true events. O.S.I.R. was indeed a real agency, although I've never been able to find any substantive, in depth, info about it.
Conceived as a series based on the purportedly real organization of the OSIR, the stories were supposedly inspired by real life incidents investigated by the organization. In its first year, the series used a docudrama format, with two 1/2 hour stories a week.
