Splint Armor is almost identical to Full Plate, with the same requisite STR score, Disadvantage to Stealth, and five pounds lighter, and one fewer point of AC. Oh yeah, one more difference. Splint Armor only costs 200 GP, less than a seventh of the cost of Full Plate. Is there something I'm missing?

Splint - The image is actually pretty good, Wikipedia has additional info about this niche armour. Plate - generally speaking a a helm, breastplate, pauldrons, vambraces, gauntlets, skirts, thigh guards, and greaves.
Sep 2, 2018 · With Str 9 you can wear any armor and carry any pack. You'll take the -10ft for Heavy Armors without sufficient Str though. Half Plate is fairly light, it's 40 lbs, less than Scalemail, or any Heavy except Ringmail (which is also 40 lbs). Breastplate and Chain Shirt weight is low, at 20 lbs.

Should I go ahead and buy Splint (and trade the Admantine Chainmail to another character of mine for an item) or stick with the Admantine Chainmail? Is the value of protection from Critical hits worth not going up an AC? Gracias in advance for your opinions.
Good breakdown but it's simpler than that. HAM would make the splint better as long as foes have a damage mod of 2 or less since that's the HAM difference (3). Remember the plate prevents "damage mod" greater amount of damage. So it could be better against mooks, at low levels.

Mathematically your AC is lower, but the overal damage reduced by avoiding a Critical hits is a larger savings than the +1 AC. Secondly, magical rare armor is just plain cooler than mundane armor.
