Biography. On November 14, 1904, Richard Ewing Powell was born to Ewing and Sallie Powell in Mountain View, Arkansas. They already had one son, Howard, and in two years would complete the family with Luther. Ewing was the head of the International Harvester Company and his job kept him moving around the state.
