2. Emerald Pool Dominica
Emerald Pool is a short rainforest walk on a well-maintained trail to a waterfall. It’s just 15 minutes to the viewing platform, where you’ll see the 40-foot waterfall that feeds into a gorgeous, clear emerald pool of water. It’s easy to access the water, so jump in for a refreshing dip. Time required:15 minutes each way. Jack Falls is just a two-minute walk down a set of well-constructed stairs to a waterfall. Another trail within Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Boeri Lake, is a moderate 45-minute one-way hike that takes you to Dominica’s highest crater lake at an elevation of around 850m. The Place. Dominica is a volcanic island located in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. In the sea, Dominica’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) covers 28,552 km2 and shares boundaries with the neighboring French territories of Martinique to the south and Guadeloupe to the north.
Whereas all the other volcanic islands of the Lesser Antilles have only one active volcano, Dominica has nine and yet there has been no major magmatic eruption since Columbus visited the island and as a result it has today the best and most extensively preserved tropical rainforests.
The most notable volcanic activity in Dominica is the large Roseau ignimbrite eruption, which resulted in formation of a submarine pyroclastic flow that extended over 250 km distance into the back-arc Grenada Basin, and produced co-ignimbrite ashfall throughout the North Atlantic to east of the arc.
