The Romanian royal family (Romanian: Familia regală a României) was the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Romania, a constitutional monarchy in Central-Eastern Europe.The kingdom existed from 1881, when Carol I of Romania was proclaimed king, until 1947, when the last king, Michael I of Romania, abdicated and the Parliament proclaimed Romania a republic.
Following the death of the former king in 2017, and the largely positive reaction of the crowds to the Royal Family at his funeral, Romanian politicians have discussed whether to hold a referendum to restore the monarchy, with around half the population (in early 2018) believing monarchy to be a better organisational form than a republic.
The de facto nation Romania doesn't have a royal family. There are descendants of past Romanian sovereigns who claim to be members of the Romanian Royal Family.
Therefore, the "Romanian Royal Family" is not recognized by the current Romanian government, and thus calling it the "Romanian Royal Family" does not represent reality, rather pushing this families agenda to regain the Romanian throne, and thus clearly not presenting a neutral perspective.
