Skinner Butte (often mistakenly called Skinner's Butte) is a prominent hill on the north edge of downtown Eugene, Oregon, near the Willamette River. A local landmark, it honors city founder Eugene Skinner and is the site of the municipal Skinner Butte Park.

Skinner Butte Park is one of Eugene's oldest parks, and is rich with local history and recreational opportunities. Dedicated in 1914, Skinner Butte Park includes 100 acres of property along the Willamette River just north of downtown Eugene.

Great place to take in Eugene’s Vistas, July 4th fireworks, and just relax and look over downtown Eugene. The trails starting on the North side of the butte can be hiked in 30 minutes to 45 mins, round trip. Easy hike to the top, approx 1 mile and 262 feet up, for scenic viewing of the valley.
Skinner’s 1856 plat of Eugene City is shown here, and extends from the Butte to 8th & High Streets and 8th & Olive. Mr. Skinner was our city’s first land developer and subdivider.

It was named after Eugene Skinner, the founder of Eugene. It tops out at an elevation of just under 700ft. and offers great views of downtown Eugene, especially at sunset.
The history of the Skinner’s Butte, and really all of the Eugene area, goes back some 30 million years ago when a warm shallow sea receded from the area and we became permanently above water.
