May 16, 2020 · The Theatiner Church is a colossal looking ochre-coloured church on Odeonsplatz in Munich. The Theatiner Church was built from 1663-1692 (Baroque) by Agostini Barelli and later by Enrico Zucelli. The façade is from the period 1765-1768 by Francois Curvilles (Rococo). It was the first baroque church in Bavaria and is one of the very few in Germany.
Built between 1663 and 1690 as a symbol of gratitude for the birth of a long-awaited heir to the Bavarian crown, the Theatine Church of St. Cajetan, or Theatinerkirche as it is more simply known in German, is widely known for its impressive mustard-yellow Rococo façade, twin towers and large dome.
The full name is Theatine Church of St. Cajetan (Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan) and it's a Roman Catholic church, many say the most beautiful temple in Munich. It was built in the 17th century in the Italian high-Baroque style and they say it's one of the most outstanding examples of Baroque architecture in all of Europe.
