     Heredoc syntax:

     A third way to delimit strings is the heredoc syntax: <<<. After this operator, an identifier is provided, then a newline. The string itself follows, and then the same identifier again to close the quotation.

     The closing identifier must begin in the first column of the line. Also, the identifier must follow the same naming rules as any other label in PHP: it must contain only alphanumeric characters and underscores, and must start with a non-digit character or underscore.

     Warning It is very important to note that the line with the closing identifier must contain no other characters, except a semicolon (;). That means especially that the identifier may not be indented, and there may not be any spaces or tabs before or after the semicolon. It's also important to realize that the first character before the closing identifier must be a newline as defined by the local operating system. This is \n on UNIX systems, including Mac OS X. The closing delimiter must also be followed by a newline.

     If this rule is broken and the closing identifier is not "clean", it will not be considered a closing identifier, and PHP will continue looking for one. If a proper closing identifier is not found before the end of the current file, a parse error will result at the last line.

     Heredocs can not be used for initializing class properties. Since PHP 5.3, this limitation is valid only for heredocs containing variables...

     The 'readline' at the end appears to be a string variable (would have been defined earlier in the program) that temporarily holds each line read in from the file.

     Git pipes long output into what's called a pager by default, which can make it easier to view the output if it doesn't fit on a screen. The ~ characters indicate that those lines were not in the original output, but it's showing them so that you can scroll down past the bottom (i.e. the last line of output can go up to the top of the screen).

     You typically can use the arrow keys to scroll up or down, and can exit by pressing q.

     Alternatively, if you don't want the output in a pager, try this:

     $ git --no-pager hist --all-

     The tags can be unset, which is why the entire option is nested in square brackets. The syntax looks a bit strange to me, and may not follow the syntax used in other man pages, but when set, tag can be set to an array of strings. You do this by passing the tag option multiple times:

     docker build --tag myapp:v1 --tag myapp:latest .-

     So my reading of the inner brackets in the man pages is it's indicating the option accepts multiple values.

     From Official Maven Docs :

     Properties are the last required piece to understand POM basics. Maven properties are value placeholders, like properties in Ant. Their values are accessible anywhere within a POM by using the notation ${X}, where X is the property. Or they can be used by plugins as default values, for example:

     In your case you have defined properties as version of java.

     Now this property(java.version) can be reused later in maven pom file.

     They come in five different styles:

     • env.X: Prefixing a variable with "env." will return the shell's environment variable. For example, ${env.PATH} contains the PATHenvironment variable. Note: While environment variables themselves arecase-insensitive on Windows, lookup of properties is case-sensitive.In other words, while the Windows shell returns the same value for%PATH% and %Path%, Maven distinguishes between ${env.PATH} and${env.Path}. The names of environment variables are normalized to allupper-case for the sake of reliability.
     • project.x: A dot (.) notated path in the POM will contain the corresponding element's value. For example:1.0 is accessible via${project.version}.
     • settings.x: A dot (.) notated path in the settings.xml will contain the corresponding element's value. For example:false is accessible via${settings.offline}.
     • Java System Properties: All properties accessible via java.lang.System.getProperties() a-re available as POM properties,such as ${java.home}.
     • x: Set within a element in the POM. The value of value may be used as${someVar}.

     You can add all the variables which you need to reuse later in your maven pom file.
