Policy. Why would I need a cholecystostomy? Most of the time, a cholecystostomy is a drainage procedure. Healthcare providers place a catheter (tube) through a percutaneous cholecystostomy to drain fluid from your gallbladder and relieve pressure, pain and, often, infection.
