1 day ago · Amsterdam, city and port in the western Netherlands that is the capital and principal commercial and financial center of the country. The city is known for its network of canals that divide Amsterdam into some 90 ‘islands’ that are connected by over 1,300 bridges and viaducts.
- Amsterdam is not a 24/7 city. Amsterdam establishments keep very regular hours. Opening hours in shops are generally from about 10am to 6pm, and 8pm for supermarkets.
- Pre-purchase tickets where possible. At museums and galleries, it’s best to plan for long queues – especially during the high season from June to August.
- Book accommodation and restaurants in advance. Similarly, lodging should be secured at least four months before your trip, especially if you’re visiting during the summer or on the weekend.
- Lock your bike… twice. Cycling is one of the most popular ways to get around Amsterdam. Most rental bikes come with two locks – it’s best to use them both!
Aug 2, 2022 · Six Reasons For Visiting Amsterdam. 1. The city center is truly beautiful. Where is Amsterdam?
Amsterdam is in northern Europe in the small but mighty country of the Netherlands. It’s very close to many other world-class cities such as Paris, London, Brussels and Berlin.
How to get to Amsterdam
You’ll most likely be flying into Amsterdam Schiphol airport, which is just outside the city. The airport is well connected to just about everywhere on the planet and has many direct flights to every continent except Australia. If coming from northern Europe, it’s easy to drive, take the train, or take the bus to Amsterdam too.
How to get around the city
Public transportation in Amsterdam is top notch. There are trains, trams, buses, and an underground metro, all of which run on the same payment system. If you plan on spending a decent amount of time in the city, it might be worth purchasing an OV Chipkaart(7 EUR) from a kiosk at a train station. But Amsterdam is also small enough that you can get by just walking everywhere. If the weather is nice, I recommend walking or cycling.
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. It’s one of the most historic and beautiful cities in the world. It’s had its highs and lows, with its Golden Age falling somewhere in the 1500s – 1600s. Amsterdam was the global center of wor...

Now, when many people think Amsterdam they think of two things: prostitution and marijuana.
