Introduction to the community. The Society of Saint John the Evangelist is the oldest of the Anglican orders for men, founded at Cowley in Oxford in 1866 by Father Richard Meux Benson. From it grew the North American Congregation and we were also involved in the founding of several other Communities around the world both for men and women.
