    • Google. With over 81.74% of the search market share, one hardly needs to introduce readers to Google. However, it clearly needs to head up any list of search engines.
    • YouTube. YouTube was founded in 2005 by veterans of PayPal and purchased just over a year later by none other than Google, giving it control over the top two search engines on this list.
    • Amazon. Amazon was launched in 1995 and is considered one of the first large companies to sell goods online. It started out selling books online but expanded rapidly.
    • Microsoft Bing. Bing replaced MSN Search as Microsoft’s answer to Google launched in 2009. It currently has 3.38% of the search market share worldwide and 7.73% in the US.

    • Yandex. Image Source. Russian search engine Yandex has roughly 2% of the worldwide market share. However, it is the most widely used search engine in its home country, with Google holding the number two spot.
    • The best alternatives to using Google for search in the US. Google's search engine is the most popular in the world for a reason: it collects an astonishing amount of data about you more-or-less continuously.
    • Bing. Where Google keeps its search engine page sparse, with barely more than a colorful logo and a text-entry box, Microsoft's Bing naturally tries to overcompensate.
    • DuckDuckGo. Outside of the top three, a relative veteran that has been slowly increasing its foothold since 2008 is DuckDuckGo. The service essentially anonymizes your search query, then feeds it to Microsoft's Bing, showing you the results without the intrusiveness — or benefit — of Google's more personalized findings.
    • Brave Search. Brave's search engine claims to be one of the most private search engines around. It does this by simply not collecting any information about its users at all.
    • Google. No need for further introductions. Google holds first place in search with a stunning difference of 88.57% from second place Bing. Google first launched 25 years ago (1998) and quickly became the top search engine because of its ability to deliver accurate answers to users’ queries in the fastest way possible.
    • Microsoft Bing. The best alternative search engine to Google is Microsoft Bing. Bing’s search engine share over the years is between 2.83% and 12.31%.
    • Yahoo. Yahoo is one of the most popular email providers, and its web search engine holds third place in search with an average of 1.24% market share. From October 2011 to October 2015, Yahoo search was powered exclusively by Bing.
    • Baidu. Baidu has a global market share between 0.68% and 11.26%. Baidu was founded in 2000 and is China’s most popular search engine. Its market share is increasing steadily, and according to Wikipedia, Baidu is serving billions of search queries per month.
