Sadly, both the Dodge brothers passed away in 1920 due to complications from the flu. Their business would prevail, though, as the widows of both Horace and John sold the business to investment bankers at Dillon, Read & Co in 1925.

In July 1914, Dodge Brothers was formed; on November 14, the first Dodge car rolled off the line, priced far higher than the Model T but supplying much more, including an electric starter (the manual starter favored by Ford was responsible for many injuries).

John remained at his side until he became critically ill. As Horace began to recover, John worsened and died on January 14, 1920. Horace passed away just 11 months later. The brothers were laid to rest together in the Dodge Mausoleum at Detroit’s Woodlawn Cemetery.
