  8. Jul 22, 2021 · It is a 20 minute drive from Lone Pine to the Whitney Portal parking area and trailhead. They sell breakfast food at the portal, and also have a spot to weigh your bag and take a picture. We found parking, took pre-hike photos and then started our hike around 6:30 am.
