Hazleton's economy is now based largely on manufacturing and shipping, facilitated by the relative closeness to Interstates 80 and 81. Five Pennsylvania highways also run through the Hazleton area (including Pennsylvania Route 309, Pennsylvania Route 93, Pennsylvania Route 924, Pennsylvania Route 424, and Pennsylvania Route 940).
West Hazleton is a small strip of land west of Hazleton City; it is mostly concentrated around Pennsylvania Route 93. Interstate 81 runs through the northern section of the borough.
