Nelson Mandela Bridge is a bridge in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the fourth of five bridges which cross the railway lines and sidings located just west of Johannesburg Park Station, the first being the Johan Rissik Bridge adjacent to the station. It was completed in 2003, and cost R38 million to build.

Opened by Nelson Mandela in 2003. The Nelson Mandela Bridge is a relatively new addition to the Johannesburg skyline, but has already gained iconic status, with an impressive 295 metre span that is lit up in all the colours of the rainbow at night.
T T he Nelson Mandela Bridge is located at the heart of downtown Johannesburg, a gleaming apex in the city sky. The area is part of a massive rejuvenation drive, filled with sites of cultural and historic significance – and the bridge is the conduit for all traffic to and from the area.
The largest cable-stayed bridge in South Africa, the 284 metre long Nelson Mandela Bridge, starts virtually at the end of Jan Smuts Avenue and links Constitutional Hill precinct in Braamfontein to the Cultural precinct in Newtown, in the heart of the city’s inner city renewal project.
The bridge is 284m long, 42m tall at the north pylon and 27m tall at the south pylon. It accommodates two lanes of traffic in either direction, as well as reserved lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Rumbling beneath are more than 40 train tracks heading in and out of the commuter hub of Johannesburg.
