Plaza de Cibeles is a square in Madrid’s city center at the intersection of the Paseo del Prado and Calle Alcalá, and has become one of the most emblematic symbols of Spain’s capital city.
Plaza de Cibeles is a very attractive, but busy, place. The central feature is the grand Cibeles Fountain, but the plaza is also flanked by the fabulously ornate Banco de Espana building. The plaza is where city celebrations commonly are held.

La plaza de Cibeles se encuentra en la ciudad española de Madrid, en la intersección de la calle de Alcalá (que la cruza de oeste a este) con el paseo de Recoletos (al norte) y el paseo del Prado (al sur).
One of the city’s most famous landmarks, it depicts Cybele, the Great Mother of the gods and Roman goddess of fertility, atop a chariot drawn by two lions. It stands in the centre of the Plaza de Cibeles, the square to which it has lent its name and which marks the start of Madrid’s avenue of art, the Paseo del Arte.
