Aarhus was originally a Viking settlement that was called Aros. There are several archaeological finds that date the town all the way back to 700 AD. Because of its location, Aarhus has always been an important trades centre both in the Denmark of the Vikings and the Middle Ages.
Den Gamle By (lit. "The Old Town") is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens, in central Aarhus, Denmark.
The old town takes you through most of the Danish history showing how the Danes lived and worked in different centuries, some of them for a rather long time ago. But the most impressive for me was the time from my own childhood and youth, the 60’s and the 70’s.

The Old Town open air museum called De Gamle By was such an amazing stop. Historic homes and buildings from around Denmark have been moved here, preserving these pieces of history, some of which date back hundreds of years. There are three main eras to explore - the 1800s, the 1920s and the 1970s.
