   Who owns the Utica Zoo?

   • The zoo property is owned by the City of Utica, and until 1964, was operated by the Parks Department. In order to ensure the Utica Zoo' s continued existence, the Utica Zoological Society assumed full management of the zoo in 1964. At that time, the zoo became a member of the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums.

   When did the Utica Zoo re-accredit the zoo?

   • Between 2015 and 2018, the zoo held fundraising campaigns to rehabilitate the primate building, and received grants from the state and county. After several years of planning and restructuring, the Utica Zoo was re-accredited by AZA in 2018. Later in 2018, the first outdoor portion of the primate exhibit was finished.
