Dagmar of Bohemia. Valdemar (III) the Young ( Danish: Valdemar den Unge) ( c. 1209 – 28 November 1231) was a Junior King of Denmark from 1215 until his death. [1] Valdemar was the eldest son and co-ruler of King Valdemar II of Denmark by his first wife, Dagmar of Bohemia. He did not outlive his father so was never a sole monarch.

In 1209, Queen Dagmar gave birth to Valdemar the Young (c. 1209–1231). Queen Dagmar died on 24 May 1212 while giving birth to her second son, who did not survive. Valdemar II elevated Valdemar the Young as co-king at Schleswig in 1218. However, Valdemar was accidentally shot with an arrow while hunting at Refsnæs in North Jutland during 1231.

Valdemar the Young was the son of Valdemar the Victorious and his first wife, Queen Dagmar, much loved by the people. He was born about 1209, but only three years later his mother died during childbirth. Already in 1215 he was appointed as his father's co-king at a general meeting of noblemen on the island of Samsø.
