     • 'logically coherent':Data items are related in a non-arbitrary way that allows reasoning about them. Often this aspect also includes comprehensiveness (as an objective at least) for the purpose at hand.
     • 'for a specific purpose':The intended perspective on the data, which co-determines the nature of structures and relationships the database will be composed of.In particular the choice of representations and abstractions applied (eg. which parts of available data are dropped) depend on the intended purpose.
     • 'designed, built and populated with data':Implies that databases comprise a model and use a technical base. It also implies that databases focus on the description of data.

     The usefulness of such high-level descriptions is probably limited but may help to focus on some key issues wrt databases:

     I've been fighting this same error for quite sometime. It actually go so bad it roadblocked me from really moving forward in Hartl's Rails Tutorial.

     Edit: Found a much better answer that simply resolves the problem instead of playing with settings I probably don't really understand.

     My only contribution, as a windows user, I found that commenting out the entire line in test/test_help.rb...

     parallelize(workers: :number_of_processors, with: :threads)-

     Resolved the issue. Trying the setting suggested at the link resulted in a "UNIXServer is required (LoadError)" error.

     A cache is used to avoid querying a database too much.

     Some queries take an especially long time to run. By caching the result (eg. saving it in memory), the expensive query doesn't need to be executed again (for a period of time when the data is still valid - where validity might be a few minutes, or until some data in a certain table changes).

     A cache is normally just implemented as a giant hash table, will keys and values. The key is used to look-up a value.

     The cache usage is described by http://www.playframework.org/documentation/2.0/ScalaCache. It is very easy to write the code for it. To store something in cache:

     Cache.set("item.key", connectedUser)-

     Here you just pass the key to store the object at, and the object.

     To retrieve it:

     val user: User = Cache.getOrElseAs[User]("item.key") { User.findById(connectedUser)}-

     Basically, getOrElseAs[class to cast data to here](key here).

     Notice the block you can pass to getOrElseAs, so that if it is not found, you can query the database.

     Otherwise, you can also use Cache.getAs[User]("item.key") (but you probably want to query anyways if it isn't found).

     Pretty much down to personal choice. It may make sense to use an extension based on the database scheme you are storing; treat your database schema as a file format, with SQLite simply being an encoding used for that file format. So, you might use .bookmarks if it's storing bookmarks, or .index if it's being used as an index.

     If you want to use a generic extension, I'd use .sqlite3 since that is most descriptive of what version of SQLite is needed to work with the database.
