Filmation began work on this feature film in 1962, but didn't have enough money to finish it until 1971. It was released theatrically in 1974, but was a box office failure. It later gained an audience on tv, as a Christmas special, with live segments of Bill Cosby as the Wizard, trying to get two kids home to spend Christmas with Dorothy.
