Summaries. During World War II, four North African men enlist in the French army to liberate that country from German oppression, and to fight French discrimination. Algeria, 1943, through Italy and France, to Alsace in early 1945, with a coda years later. North Africans volunteer to fight Germans to liberate France, their motherland.
Days of Glory is alternately a rousing war picture and a somber mediation on the lingering effects of racism. It was a 2007 Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film and was produced in part to encourage the French government to reimburse the pensions of all North African soldiers who fought for France in World War II.
