  2. May 25, 2024 · What a life! Clara Wieck was born in Leipzig in 1819, the daughter of a piano teacher and a dealer in musical instruments. She soon enjoyed a reputation as a child prodigy in the international music world. Robert Schumann, who was ten years older, met her while she was still a child. Their marriage produced eight children.

    • A talented pianist and composer. Clara Schumann, born Clara Wieck, is considered one of the most talented and distinguished composer–pianists of the Romantic era.
    • Child prodigy. Starting young, she was a child prodigy. Her father made her practise for two hours a day alongside her daily piano, violin, singing, theory, harmony, composition and counterpoint lessons.
    • Music in the family. Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a famous German piano teacher. It was thanks to him that Clara studied music from such a young age.
