  6. The mystery of Maurice is why it wasn't nearly as successful as the other Merchant-Ivory Forster adaptations (A Room With A View and Howard's End). It's not much of a mystery really. A gay drama made in the late 80s isn't as liable to get as much promotion from studios. It's a shame because, in my opinion, it's a very good film.
