Jul 11, 2016 · New London, Connecticut has a long history and was incorporated in the 1700s as one of Connecticut’s first towns and official port, making the city prosperous. New London was burnt to the ground towards the end of the Revolutionary War but was rebuilt to be an important whaling and transportation center in the 19th century.
City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005), was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States in which the Court held, 5–4, that the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another private owner to further economic development does not violate the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment.
