     To be more explicit, here is the relevant quote:

     A batch is a group of one or more Transact-SQL statements sent at the same time from an application to SQL Server for execution.

     That was a bunch of gooble dee gook but here's what I understand: Sometimes I can only have only one thing in a batch and if I want to put multiple things in the same SQL file, I need to surround that statement with GO.

     For example, when you create a view in SQL server,

     "CREATE VIEW must be the only statement in the batch"

     Creates a managed application module that contains class metadata and managed code as an object in an instance of SQL Server. By referencing this module, common language runtime (CLR) functions, stored procedures, triggers, user-defined aggregates, and user-defined types can be created in the database.

     CREATE ASSEMBLY uploads an assembly that was previously compiled as a .dll file from managed code for use inside an instance of SQL Server.

     Assemblies are .NET dll's which are then imported into SQL Server where you can use them within SQL syntax.

     If your assembly contains a function, you can use it in SELECT clause. That assembly might, for example, be used to access files structure or do other things that are normally not available in SQL Server.

     The tempdb system database is a global resource that is available to all users connected to the instance of SQL Server and is used to hold the following:

     • Temporary user objects that are explicitly created, such as: globalor local temporary tables, temporary stored procedures, tablevariables, or cursors.
     • Internal objects that are created by the SQL Server Database Engine,for example, work tables to store intermediate results for spools orsorting.
     • Row versions that are generated by data modification transactions ina database that uses read-committed using row versioning isolationor snapshot isolation transactions.
     • Row versions that are generated by data modification transactionsfor features, such as: online index operations, Multiple ActiveResult Sets (MARS), and AFTER triggers.

     Operations within tempdb are minimally logged.

     This enables transactions to be rolled back. tempdb is re-created every time SQL Server is started so that the system always starts with a clean copy of the database.

     Temporary tables and stored procedures are dropped automatically on disconnect, and no connections are active when the system is shut down. Therefore, there is never anything in tempdb to be saved from one session of SQL Server to another. Backup and restore operations are not allowed on tempdb.
