During one of the productions, "The Loan of a Lover," Anna fell in love with fellow actor John Bridge Pratt. They married on her parents' anniversary, May 23, 1860. Unfortunately, John died and left Anna to care for their two sons, Frederick and John.

Published in 1868, Little Women is set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concord, Massachusetts, and is loosely based on Alcott's childhood experiences with her three sisters, Abigail May Alcott Nieriker, Elizabeth Sewall Alcott, and Anna Alcott Pratt.
The marriage occurred on May 23, 1860 in Concord, MA at Orchard House, the Alcott home. Anna is known to have kept a diary for parts of her life prior to 1859. It appears that the only diary she maintained after this is from the year of her death in 1893, also at Harvard University’s Houghton Library but not online.
