A laid-back Italian from the south of the country, Antonio Giovinazzi is a Ferrari junior driver who became a fulltime Formula 1 driver with the Sauber-run Alfa Romeo Racing team in 201 9. Formula Pilota China was Giovinazzi ’s unlikely destination for his single-seater bow in 2012.
Born in the southern Italian town of Martina Franca, Giovinazzi enjoyed his first racing success in the Formula Pilota China series, winning the title with Eurasia. He also raced competitively closer to home in Formula Abarth and made the step up to F3 at the age of 19.
Giovinazzi started his racing career in 2006 and he quickly found success, winning three karting championships in 2006 —the Italian National Trophy 60cc, the 36th Torneo Industrie - Minikart, and the Euro Trophy 60—. Then he won the WSK Master Series - KF2 championship in 2010 and 2011, a title won by Max Verstappen in the following season.
